marble has always been my favourite type of surface. There’s something classy and timeless about it, white marble in particular. I have been looking for a marble notebook for a while but couldn’t find one in stores, so I decided to make one myself. It’s ridiculously easy to make and you only need 3 items: a notebook, a roll of marble self-adhesive drawer liner and scissors. Make your own in minutes for under $10!
I bought a roll of marble self-adhesive liner at dollar store for $1.25 and it was then when I thought about making my own marble notebook and how easy it would be using this. It’s the same kind of liner that I’ve seen others make DIY phone or laptop skins. It has the type of adhesive that easily peels off of plastic surfaces without leaving residue. I then bought a simple coil-less hardcover notebook from Staples for about $7 that had a matte cover. This way, you will only need one piece of the contact paper, but you can also use this same method using a coiled notebook if that’s all that you can find. You will simply need a piece for the front and one for the back. I already had a pair of scissors at home, but if you don’t have one on hand, you can pick one up from the dollar store or any office supply store.
Roll out the liner and place the notebook on it to measure out how much of it you’ll need. Keep about an inch of liner on all sides of the notebook so that you can adhere and secure it on the inside. With one hand, carefully pull away the paper to expose the sticky side and use your other hand to smooth the liner onto the notebook while pushing out any air bubbles. If you see one, carefully pull the liner off the notebook to where the air bubble is and press it out and smoothing it out. Once you get halfway (either the front or back is fully lined while the other side still has the liner intact with the paper and not the notebook), cut a slit vertically to where the bind ends and cut a triangle at the corners so that you can fold the liner up and over onto the inside of the notebook. Repeat on the other side of the notebook.
And voilà! Your very own marble notebook. You can personalize the cover with Sharpie markers. Your friends and colleagues will definitely ask where you got it from. If you give this DIY a try, please share photos or post them on Instagram and tag @tidbitsandthings!
